The BES regularly announces bursary schemes for students and post-docs to help with attendance at our own activities or those of other epigraphic bodies. Please watch this space for information on upcoming bursary schemes. Information on how to apply will be released on or before the opening date indicated with the scheme. The Society's Steering Committee will endeavour to review your application within two weeks of the closing date (or earlier if the closing date is near the date of the event) and the Secretary will then inform you of the outcome of your application. Please note that our bursaries are contributions to travel (or, where applicable, accommodation) expenses; we cannot normally cover the full cost of attendance (etc.). Note also that the Society asks all our bursars to provide us with a short report of their experiences from the event or training they participated in within one month after its conclusion.

Bursary scheme: BES Autumn Colloquium 2023, London - Student and post-doc bursaries
Opening date: 1 September 2023
Closing date: 15 September 2023

HOW TO APPLY
To apply for a bursary, please send the information requested below via e-mail to the Society's Honorary Secretary by the respective closing date. Applications will be reviewed by the Society's Steering Committee either within a fortnight of the application date or roughly every two weeks within a longer application window. Note that doctoral students based in the UK may be eligible to apply for support with their travel expenses with the Thomas Wiedemann Memorial Fund.

1) Name, institutional affiliation, e-mail;
2) Your current degree or research programme;
3) Short description (c. 300-500 words) of how participation at the event will assist your studies/research, including, where applicable, comment on any planned event contribution of your own (e.g. paper or poster presentation);
4) Name and e-mail address of a referee whom the BES may contact;
5) An estimate of costs incurred to attend the meeting: please be specific about the type of expenses (travel, overnight accommodation and/or registration fees) - and specify for which particular expense you are seeking support and to which value;
6) Information on other bursaries received or applied for. Please indicate also which particular expense (e.g. travel, overnight accommodation) you are seeking support for and/or to which total value. NB: if you are not applying to other funding bodies (e.g. your own institution, the Wiedemann Fund, or else), please say why.

Past Bursary Awards
